Hey guys
I haven't worked for percentage yet, is there any trick to be aware of? Also is there any max dead head miles that should be listed in contract or bobtail stuff like that?Just want to know little more so I wont go broke here with a company I'm about to talk to.
Paying gross percentage off load instead of CPM, who knows?

I can't speak for every company out there, but generally they have a number that they try to keep your avg $ per mile above. I never saw it written anywhere in the (very long-80+pages) contract I had when on percentage. Ask when you speak to them what they shoot for as a fleet average/what their avg truck did in rate per mile last quarter. They should have those figures readily available.
GeorgeB Thanks this. -

% of revenue is better usually. I am with a company that uses % of revenue and do alot better then mileage pay system. % of revenue is about each load then about how far you can go in a week. That's the main difference.

I recently switched companies, and went from cpm with the previous to percentage with my new company. I get about 85 percent. Ask them what their rates are, and all the usual things you would ask any perspective company. Typically percentage will always be better, if you find a company that had good rates and gives you the true percentage of the load... Not a percentage of what they "say" it pays.

do they have company drivers?r u allowed to look for loads?who pays for what?remember 75% or 80% of nothing is nothing.maybe if you mention the name of the company you'll get an answer from somebody who's working for them or use to.

i would prefer to book my own loads, personally.
at the very least. SEE the load confirmation. if you don't get to see that. then the company probably not worth working for.
but hey, if your happy and you think the company is being honest with you. then, cheerios, matey. -
If your using theyre trailer is there rent/maintenence? Some companies will give you a flat rate or fuel surcharge if you dh over a certain amount of miles. Make sure that they will allow you to see the rate confirmation paperwork if you ask.
percentage is great with the right company, and a much more fair practice.GeorgeB Thanks this. -

the good paying loads don't usually make it to the loadboard. usually. when they do, it either a broker with a situation. or the load is going to a lousy area that requires you to spend a day going somewhere for the next load.
you've gotta be leased on to a good company with agents or make friends with a broker here and there. if your not leased on.BigBadBill Thanks this.
