I have orientation scheduled for monday the 17th in Jonestown PA and I was wondering if Swift offers the comdata card thing as an option for payroll other than direct deposit? I would use direct deposit but money troubles these past few days have made me overdraw my checking account and I cant afford to use up a good portion of my first check to pay the fees so I'm not going to set up direct deposit at first, but I probably will a few weeks/months down the line when I get back on my feet.
So does Swift offer that card for your pay to be loaded onto, and I'm guessing you could just go to any atm and withdraw all of it if need be correct? This is my first driving job so I'm not sure if it's called the comdata card or not.

Yes. You will receive a com data card which will be the regular method of payment until you add direct deposit. It can take 2 weeks to implement the did.

Ok thanks.
Yea I know for mostly all employers it takes at least 1 week for your direct deposit to start working. But I'll use the comdata card for at least a few months, like I said until I get on my feet because right now I'm stretched to the max. -
No worries. Been there lol.

I think that you can still split your pay between both the bank and comdata card
-
That doesn't sound bad. I'll have to ask about that at orientation. Although I don't think I would do it because I'm not that much in the hole in my checking account, I'm only like $150 or so including all those #### fees banks slam you with. So i'll probably pay off my overdraft as soon as I can ( not sure if I could use my comdata card over the phone with the bank to do that or not ), and then shortly after that I'll switch to direct deposit. -
If I'm not mistaken you can transfer money to your bank account with the comm data card. The down side to the comm data card is (I'm told) you only get two free transactions per pay period then you have a small fee after that, but if you write yourself a comm check for your entire paycheck and just deal with cash you can avoid the fee.

You can still split your money any way you want it. You can add a little on the Commdata card and can even have the remaining split up into more than one bank account.

Most truck stops will cash a Comchek up to a couple hundred dollars for no fee with fuel purchase.
Walmart accepts Comdata as a debit card, and you can get up to $200 cash back with each purchase. I'm not sure if the "two free per payday" applies to debit transactions.
Since you are in Jonestown, you may want to consider getting a PNC checking account. PNC is being very aggressive in putting their ATMs all over the place. Sheetz recently switched to PNC, and Wawa has been PNC. (Most Wawa stores do have a couple of truck-friendly spaces.) Half the rest areas on the New Jersey Turnpike have PNC ATMs; they must be raking in a fortune on the service charges for non-PNC users.
