Well, being paid on a 1099 means you have to pay your own taxes, both federal income and social security/medicare. And you are to file and pay quarterly. You will pay your and the employer SS/Medicare parts, which at this time are 15.3%.

They would have to offer $0.75/mile before i would even consider it.

 

Driveaway? You would also have to get yourself from the destination, to where ever you pick up the next truck, also. Bus, walk, taxi, towing your personal car, etc.

You'll probably also have to pay for the fuel. This isn't somehow related to the bennett out of Georgia, is it?

 

At an outfit like Bennet, I guess it makes sense they'd pay that way. At least paid on a 1099 (you're essentially a "business") you'll get to see first hand just how big the bubble is you're riding on and what it's like to live on the edge of bankruptcy when you're a business in the eyes of the IRS, and don't even have any capital assets to show for your risk and expenditures!

Keep EVERY little receipt you accumulate, find a good CPA, you'll need them. And good luck.

 

I did 1099 owed 4 k in taxes. Save all your reciepts. Proof of per diem.
