Pedestrian killed by semi at South Side intersection

Tribune staff report July 29, 2008 A pedestrian was killed Monday morning when he was run over by a semi at a South Side intersection, police said.

The man, believed to be in his 70s, was crossing Western Avenue at 47th Street when the accident occurred. Police said the man was dead at the scene.

Citing witness accounts, police said the semi was heading north on Western and hit the pedestrian as it began to turn west onto 47th.

No citations had been issued as of Monday evening while the crash was under investigation.
