I used to know of an amishman near new market iowa who rented space in my friends garage to keep his car and would sneak over to use the phone too.

I run into northern IN and southern MI pretty frequently, so I have seen them a lot. I'm very impressed with how well mannered thier horses are around vehicles... That kind of training takes a #### lot of work... I would know as I grew up cowboying both for fun and for a living. Its very hard to get a horse to remain calm in close proximity to a large, loud, fast, shiny object. Ive had my share of road side rodeos on ranch horses that didnt like cars.

How will the Amish power their blue light during the apocalypse?

It's amazing that the collision detection systems pick up the buggy! I was passing one on day and it picked it up as a collision and jammed on the brakes! Atleast around here a lot of them are going to LED lights on their buggies instead of the candles, makes them much easier to see at night.

They're everywhere around the area where I run. Been that way since I was a kid.

When I was in my teens, having just gotten my driver's license, they used to really tick me off. So I'd retaliate every time I'd see one. I kept lady fingers (fireworks) in the center console of my truck. I'd get behind them, grab a pack, and light them as I drove by, tossing them out the window just in front of the horse. More than one ended up in the field.

As I've gotten older though, I've come to tolerate them. I give them all the room I can when I pass them, and I try and do it without making too much noise. I even do business with them now, they just built me a really nice pole shed.

The key to doing business with them is stay away from Lancaster. That's a tourist trap. Same as Sugar Creek, OH. But once you get away from the "known" Amish areas, they're pretty decent people.

I could go on and on about Amish folk, but I'd rather not right now. Around here, aside from the buggies, and the clothes they wear, they blend right in. And they're just as corrupt as English people.

And yes, if the Apocalypse happens, they will survive.

One other thought. What do gay Amish guys dream of? Two Mennonite!

    Mennonite....

Big difference. Amish is the more radical of the two.

I've seen a buggy and the horse off a box culvert in IN on a county road. The ones in MN wave at me when I run across them while driving truck, and they fix storm damage before the insurance adjusters visit their non Amish neighbors after a storm.

The really devout absolutely don't work retail on Sunday.

    bzinger and Lepton1 Thank this.
