    Motocross25 above me is right...

Unless you are the MC (Carrier), DOT # and Insurer, and have a contract with the shipper, you will have no idea what the rate is.

I think mileage pay is cheating you. I'll take percentage anytime.

Schneider is training wheels. But some tanker companies pay hourly instead of percentage or mileage. Some of the work i did at heniff 10 years ago paid $27 an hour

Wow...went through O/OP orientation with a 2 year Heniff O/OP who said he couldn't make it work over there. He was over at Schneider buying a truck. Turned his Pete in over there.

I've always heard Heniff was the go to for tanker O/OP's, but he changed my mind with his real world experiences.

Broker: " Hey, the Rate con is $3500 for for 1150 miles, do you want to take the load?.."

    Dispatcher: "Yeah, I'll take it"

Driver: "So, what's the rate con for the load that's 1150 miles?"

Dispatch: "Best this load pays is $638 so I'd take if I were you because there are tons of drivers who want it I could get. It's around $2100 ..I will email you the original rate con. In these times that's around $0.58 cpm whiles most are scratching to get $0.50 cpm at best in this market remember you're smarter than the rest of those drivers who work for the mile still. Your getting 30% of our load, were just giving top dollar"

Driver: "Yeah, you're probably right I'll take it".

Trucking Company Owner: "How much did you give to the driver for that load? I sure hope you're saving us money because the market in a slump still. Better be less than $800..?.."

Dispatcher: "He said he would do it for $638.."

Trucking Company Owner: "WHAT?!.!..WHOW!, you're good. Ha..take that extra $162 you saved me for yourself. I'm glad we can sucker these steering wheel holders who always want more and more for just holding my trucks steering wheels. I need to hire more suckers like him. Remember when I had the rate per mile at a steady $0.75 cpm..?"

Dispatcher: "Yeah, we losing a lot on those lower paying loads we sent out"

Trucking Company Owner: "Yeah, but now we Sucker them into what ever we feel and save on our end by scheming straight from the top or lower rates & print up whatever we want...#### fools"

Point of all of this is a trucking company is looking at all angles including if they had to pay 23% to 25% of a load they still want to pay a driver then least they can. 18.2% is what this driver decides to take NEVER knowing what's going on with the real rate con from the Broker to Dispatcher or even what the Company Owner anticipated. It was still lower then $0.75 cpm and then the Dispatcher saved them even more. The driver will NEVER see the 30% ($1050) of the REAL rate con. Deception at its best while the driver thinks he is winning but naive to not knowing he isn't.

If you're bargaining with your dispatcher then you're letting yourself get screwed, regardless of what the shipper or broker is paying the carrier. Your pay should've been spelled out in your offer letter (company driver) or your lease contract (owner-operator).

The LAW is that if you are being paid a percentage of the trucks gross revenue then you have the right to ask your employer to see the billing invoices they sent to the customers that you hauled for. HOWEVER the company will not like this and most likely (unless they are a rare outfit and are totally honest) will show you what they want you to see MAYBE or they will terminate you for what ever reason they choose.

I watched the step son of a company owner who took over a small, specialized, portion of the step father's business under his own DOT number with a hand full of drivers paid % and it grew in to a small fleet leased to another carrier.

I watched him gather up a few customers that he protected by meeting the downward price pushes by the local competition taking the reduction in his portion of the revenue in order to not cut his drivers pay.

Later his longest term driver quits griping that his % hasn't gone up so he's leaving....go figure.

I know a lot of owner operators who came to tanks from flatbed mentioning how the BOL was the freight invoice and the top page was an advance check for a good portion of the expected operator's revenue.

I don;t think any company does this now but Krajack used to include and actual copy of the invoice with the operator's settlements.

It really seems like a lot of people don't understand percentages. There's only so much percent in 100 but when the price is go up so does your pay. Somebody needs to tell the waiters at the restaurants.
