I've had this happen too. The only way I found out was they lost the account I was running dedicated for. So I got my own authority and started running the account. Say a load paid $1200 ... They it ran through the brokerage took a $200 cut and the $1000 left is what I got 85% of. They were robbing me blind.

I can say, when I put drivers on loads, if it's a broker load, they get a copy of the original rate con. Straight from the broker. If it's a direct customer, I tell them the rate, with nothing cutout. We pay 25% of what the load actually pays.
I worked for CDJ for almost 3 years and they were always upfront with their figures. So there are companies that do it right.
Personally, I would not work anywhere that didn't pay %. Why have to run 3000 miles a week when you can run 2200 and make the same or better money.

Basically, because everyone (companies) are Not as transparent as you are. In a perfect world it would be nice. However, some company owners found ways to scheme in order of benefiting themselves & for them thats considered good business.
