Alright guys here it is I’ve been reading forums but I want you to know my specifics so I’m making my own in search of opinions and answers.
The truck is 2006 Pete 379exhd c15 cat 18sp 3.70 rears 230in wb 13k steers 46k rears 24.5s wet kit used for rgn lowboy. O/H less than 100k ago. AND the price is right. I want to use it for end dump and heavy haul mainly. It lets me be the most versatile which is important for me still being early in my career.
The thing is it’s a day cab. Of course the salesman (real honest guy) suggests I add a 36” sleeper to the back move up the headache rack and pogo stick. My question is is all that really worth it? How expensive is it? And is it practical? I see a lot of day cab conversions but not a lot of sleeper conversions mainly just swaps for bigger or flat tops.
Perfect truck but day cab. Is conversion worth it?

Doesnt sound like perfect truck for you because is missing the most important feature critical for your line of work.
Salesman, real honest guy??
You are in love with the fact that it is a 379 and has a c15. Thats why you say its perfec and the salesman is a " real honest guy".Dino soar and Intothesunset Thank this. -
You didn’t state how much that perfect truck cost ........
Intothesunset Thanks this. -
230" wb is gonna get cramped, IMO. Granted, the pin is way forward on an RGN, but I had trouble with my 230 + headache + flatbed. No issues with RGN or step, but flatbed only had maybe a 6" gap.

I say he’s honest because I’ve been looking for a Pete for a couple months and he gets them regularly and he’s turned me away from certain trucks because he knows I want paper trails or he knows they’re asking for too much and the engine doesn’t have much life left. He’s been straight with me not just trying to throw me in anything.
Yes I want a Pete but I’ll also take an N14 or Detroit 60 and pull what it’s built to pull. Don’t tell me why I said what I said.
On another note I agree it is missing a critical feature which is why I proposed the question and said “it’s perfect BUT” -
Mainly because I then wouldn’t get my question answered only get replies saying I could find a truck same price or better specd similar. Price is 48kDiesel Dave Thanks this.

thanks for your reply
Was yours a daycab or sleeper? -
Sleeper. Granted it was a 70", but with no room for overhang things can be somewhat limiting.
-
ok just was nervous about the honest saleman comment when i think they are all hidden scum. Nothing wrong with falling in love with a 379. Happens to everyone
-
Oh I was thinking 36” was pretty much all you had room for but if i could get by with a 48” i could make it work
