The highway how does this work is that true you can not go off route no matter what it doesn't make sense to me because I have seen many at truck stops.... Can someone pleaSe lighted up the way for these permitted loads and the ability to pull of to get coffee and what not ...

Most states its a mile for food fuel and services. But I stay out west so have no idea about east coast.

My friend is a heavy hauler.he is not allowed off the highway in ohio

Alot of oversize depending on the size just drops them at a scale or in a rest area then bobtails out to get what they need. At least this is what I have seen in the east.
slim shady and albert l Thank this. -
How does he eat and get fuel? If he doesn't get off the highway?
-
In Ohio you cannot exit if it's not on your permit period, you can include an exit for scales or whatever if you specify it.

Tell him to read his permits.......some states its not allowed...

It depends on how how big the load in question is. My last oversize load was only 9'6". Only 2 of the state's I crossed even adressed that issue in the permits at all. One said I could leave the route for fuel and rest within a mile. Another said the same, but added that I could not use any underpass to reach the fueling station. I think that one was Ohio, if I remember right.
catalinaflyer Thanks this. -
Not in Ohio, you cannot deviate at all.
