That depends on how new your MC number is. There's a lot of brokers that won't load fairly new carriers, so that may be an issue but you never know until you try. Plus she gets paid at the end of the week, so you'd have to prepare for that as well.

    KenworthGuyNH and Dirtymartini15x Thank this.

Thank you for the reply. I know a lot of brokers won't load new carriers, I was kind of hoping she may have some in's with some of them. I don't have my authority yet, still trying to figure out the best plan of action.

The important thing at the beginning is to walk before you run. Don't go out and buy a shiny new truck and trailer... Because you won't be getting good enough freight to justify it in the first year. On the flip side be very comfortable investing money in reduced operating cost whenever you get the chance. This whole game isn't about what you make it's about what you keep. The first year's 'profit' is mostly in the form of having a viable MC at the end.

I've been in this business my whole life, driving, mechanic, running the backend for one of my uncles etc. I don't have shiny truck fever lol. I have making money fever. The trucks I'm looking at are pre-emissions areo trucks spec'd for what I'd be doing. And they are all recent inframes with paperwork, and cheap enough to pay cash. Right now I'm more concerned with finding work out of my area to justify pulling the trigger on a truck. Or if leasing on to someone else would be in my best interest at least in the beginning.

Get a subscription to ITS or DAT for a month. Look at the load board for your area and the equipment type you want to run. Call some of the brokers and explain your situation. Ask them point blank if they would use you. Some of them will say yes.

    Dirtymartini15x Thanks this.

I do look at the free boards, and I talk to my boss about what he see's on DAT everyday. That's why I'm a little discouraged about my area. But I'll have to get a subscription and really study it to get a better idea since my boss's idea of a bad load may not be bad to me.

It's definitely possible that your area sucks. If you're on the East Coast it almost definitely does. That just means you need to make your money coming home instead of going out. Some markets just naturally have more trucks than loads. Those markets you make most of your money going into not coming out of.

EDIT: My point is that it's all very variable. You can make money in any market in the country if you're smart about the spot market. Being smart about the spot market isn't necessarily the easiest though.

Thanks for the tips @boredsocial. Luckily i got the call ive been waiting on for a long time. Looks like I'll be leasing on with a company with a large dedicated customer if everything goes well.
