When I worked for Schneider, one of the things I loved was the e-logging. I hated drawing lines, doing math, etc etc. It's not horrible, but it's just one of those things that makes me go, "ughhhhh". The company e-logs were great, but after losing my job, and especially due to the reason of losing my job; 3 incidents in an 8 month period; I can pretty much forget being hired by a large trucking company any time soon. This doesn't leave me completely screwed, but only the bigger companies have fleet wide E-Logs and so I'm kind of forced to look into personal E-log solutions.
I did some reading/searching through the forum and found some information, but am hoping to have a few things clarified. I'm looking for a solution as close to the fleet wide implemented E-Logs as possible. I know it's not possible for any personal solution to be exact, but perhaps similar and close in many ways.
A few questions/concerns I have; some of what I read mentioned that you may have to print out your logs and hand sign them if using a personal e-log system. I never had to have company e-logs faxed over, but would you have to sign the faxed logs after they came in? I'm trying to see the difference is all, and I guess I don't quite understand why you wouldn't have to sign them if they're faxed, but if you print them out you have to sign them? I suppose a lot of it comes down to the fact that the company wide e-logs are somewhat standard and regulated, where as if you have your own personal system, it's more like paper logs and your signature is kind of your 'I'm not lying' under penalty of law situation?
If there is a well known (among DOT officers) personal e-log system out there that could start and stop logging automatically and not have to be wired into the truck for company drivers (maybe use GPS technology to determine when you're moving/stopped?) and not able to be modified by the user, this would be ideal. My biggest concerns are legitimacy when it comes time for a roadside inspection. It'd be nice if I could hand the officer my e-log solution and he already know of the system I'm using and that I can't modify the driving entries.
I'd prefer a solution that has it's own hardware as well; I do have a laptop and an android phone, but the laptop is too much of a hassle and there's no way that I know of to print from an android phone. A lot of the commercial driver GPS's that I've seen have HoS tracking actually, are these able to be used as official logs, or are they just a tool to assist in keeping track of your HoS?
Thanks very much for the assistance!![]()

He hates drawing lines and doing simple arithmetic????? That's his pro E-log stance?? Good grief. I guess this is why the industry is OK with running off all the old, experienced hands who know better, and replacing them with idgets who don't have a clue and accept the BS, no questions asked ... You don't miss what you never had. Did many abuse paper logs? Yes. Could the paper log abuse have been detected and fined? Yes Are the E-logs costing drivers, consumers, and carriers billions of dollars yearly? Yes Are the E-logs saving billions of dollars in reduced HOS related accidents yearly? Absolutely Not.

wow, you must be a great and valued member of your community! I mean, who wouldn't want some a-hole getting pissed at others for their opinions that don't effect you what-so-ever? (I saw what you said, but no, e-logs were a given, the transition has very little, if anything to do with people like me that don't like filling out paper logs, and btw, I did fill out paper logs when I drove for Schneider for the first month...there's nothing for me to miss.) And oh yes, I accept all the BS with no questions asked! I'm an idget to the 'T'! I define the word idget! No sir, not a single lick of intelligence to be found within me!
You see, the problem I see here is I start a thread with no mal intent what-so-ever, simply looking for solutions for my dislike of paper logging, hoping to find a personal e-log solution that is legitimate and DoT acceptable. And you come in here, throwing your sarcasm around, being completely unreasonable and lets be honest, just being an a-hole. Oh gee wiz! I must be so lazy and just the WORST ever to not like filling out paper logs every time I make a stop! Far be it from me to dislike doing something and prefer an alternative solution that fits me better. Tell you what sir, why don't you try being helpful and friendly instead of stomping on someone just because they have a question to ask? I'm sick of running into people that have nothing better to do than to rip someone a new one when they weren't looking for any kind of confrontation in the first place.
As for me? Well, it's clear that you will never be useful or provide anything helpful that I will want to read, so the ignore member feature will suite me just fine. It would be nice if people like you didn't exist at all though.awbro Thanks this. -
and why so many folks were getting violated and put out of service, the paper logs (for some people) were not easy, but difficult and they made many many mistakes (outside of the conscious lies)
the other day, i had parked at 2130, sat at the fuel island till 0730 to start my day and fuel. I began fueling at 0730-0745
later on that day, i am looking at my logs.........why did i mark fueling at 0700? if i had gotten stopped, i would have had a nice fine and some point PURELY ON A MISTAKE
a company gets a few of those and they are hot water with DOT
so the solution was elogs, great idea, except it screws the drivers -
Talk about bent out of shape bevause speaks the truth about the box.
