Hallo carhaulers. I haul povs sometimes and ive noticed that these customers especially when they are moving to another state will stuff their cars with personal items. I had one fill a ford explorer to a point where i couldn't slide the driver seat back. Besides the added weight to the unit bieng shipped, insurance only covering the car and the need to sometimes exit the car using the back passager doors after loading, how do you guys deal with this? Is this legal.? Thanks. Stay safe

They sound like they don't understand that those items can be "lost" anywhere alnear by the way.

Pretty sure it's not legal. I have always dealt with POV's under a very strict policy. I don't haul them, ever. full of crap or not too many headaches.
Terry270 and brian991219 Thank this. -
All the personal crap in the vehicle will move, break, and possibly destroy the interior. I would not load the unit.

I always tell the customers about no personal items policy. What pisses me off is the brokers telling the customers that is is ok to put up to 100lbs. The brokers are bidding on uship and promise the customers that they are "fully insured", that the price is all inclusive including up to 100 lbs of personal items? WTF? The insurance belong to the carrier and we move autos, not household goods.

No personal items, it opens you up for a legal challenge plus most of us, except maybe the car haulers working for moving companies are licensed for household goods. Not to mention the other things already said especially the chance of damage and extra weight.

I do 90% pov and it can be a real problem.
A lot of customers use there car as a shiping container when they are moving or heading south for the winter.
Like Brian had stated most car haulers have authority for cars and not house hold goods.
One thing I like to tell them which is100% truth is there is no sales tax on auto transport but there is on house hold goods.
But in the end there is always somthing in the car that probably shouldn't be but I haul it anyway.
I guess it is kind of one of the pitfalls of personal owner car haul.
Kind of like rear over hang on a high mount.
I have been doing this for 20 years with out issue but there will probably come a day when it's time to pay the piper.Viceroy1 and brian991219 Thank this. -
I heard somewhere that there is a hefty fine if your caught with a car full of household goods. Iirc it is up in the 10k range for crossing state lines but don't quote me on it.
The brokers are charging customers more money to but there crap in their cars. I know that for sure as the last car I had them empty out they called the broker and demanded a 100$ refund for their property.
