How many of you guys have your own mechanic? How did you come across your mechanic and how much work do you toss him?
There have been little minor things wrong with my tractor and I have had to wait 5+ hours at T/A's or Petro to get something done that only took 15 mins to done. If anyone happen to know anybody in the Richmond area looking for work, let me know

I have my own mechanic. He works on more than my truck and he is always busy. Usually I call before I go so he can be prepared I don't think you can get some one to only work on 1 truck. They need to make a living. If I go to a mechanic and its empty makes you wonder why. I try to avoid the mega chains because of their long waits.

I don't ever get anything done on the road unless it is an absolute emergency and I am unable/don't have the necessary tools to fix the problem myself. The little things, such as lights and greasing the truck, I can do myself .. otherwise everything else gets done by my mechanic at home. They have been in business for a long time, they know what they are doing, and my truck gets in and out of their shop in a timely fashion ... and, they let me park it there at no extra charge when I go home (3 miles away).

Any work on the road and I'd take it to Peterbilt or a co,pany shop, depending on the work. Otherwise, I am an Aviatiion Mech and can do it myself. Once overhauled a 400 Cummins in a guys driveway. The fool put the injectors in without any Parker O-lube or Lucas and rolled one o-ring up. Got 45 mi away and had to ahv it towed.
