Personal opinion if you can't ride I mean drive stick your not a real trucker...
That's like saying if you can't mix sticks you're not a trucker. I drove an auto a few times and liked it. Less work. Good day.ducnut, 4mer trucker and Dale thompson Thank this. -
. Mixing sticks I haven’t heard that since I had dark hair. ( says the old guy with white hair)JolliRoger, 4mer trucker, wore out and 1 other person Thank this.

You're probably almost as old as me.
Hammer166, Dale thompson and jcatel Thank this. -
It's like having a guy from the olden days say you're not a real trucker because you have power steering and A/C
ducnut Thanks this. -
Pretty sure the reason is fuel economyRockinChair Thanks this.

I could handle the armstrong steering, but by God we fat guys need our A/C.
Sirscrapntruckalot, seagreg, RockinChair and 4 others Thank this. -
Auto trannys in a truck are not true autos like a car.. I think alot of people dont understand that... It is an automated manual transmission.. Meaning a manual transmission thats automated by a computer... Theres no torque converter like you would see in a true automatic or an auto in a car... Which is why they are horrible in low speed situations like backing up or coming off from a red light...
For ecample. i loaded a water truck on my trailer the other day and it had a 6 speed auto.. A true auto. All u had to do was let off the brake like a car and it moves... Where as trying to load a dump truck with an automated tranny is a pain because you let off the brake and nothing happens.. Give it a little fuel and it takes off like a rocket.. Makes for a fun time loading..ducnut, seagreg, gentleroger and 3 others Thank this. -
If needed a gear shifter and clutch pedal to feel superior, I might consider therapy. Especially if I required one of the super tall gear shifters so everyone around could definitely tell that I'm not driving an auto-shift.
2Tap Thanks this. -
I’m not familiar with anything other than the 12 speed Paccar trans, but it has creep mode and urge to move. Unless you are on a steep hill once you let off the brake it will go at an idle. Creep mode allows it to maintain forward movement at an idle with no throttle input up to 5th gear I think? The newer ones have come along way from the earlier versions that needed throttle input to move.
