I guess if it only happened once, it would be one too many times.

If it happens, I'm going to bust a cap in them, plain and simple.

I'll deal with the legal aspects of it later. At least I will still be alive.

I worked in a Max/Supermax prison for nearly 10 years. When I first started I was terrified, but I hid it well, I had to walk amongst killers and rapists and all I had was a tiny bottle of pepper spray to protect me from 300+ convicted violent felons :biggrin_2559:.

After the first year I started to get used to the environment, this is kinda where you were in your threat awareness while delivering pizza "in the ghetto", while you recognized that potential threats were always around you, you had to act as if it didn't bother you.. or you had no real control if anything DID happen.. so why stress about it?

My last year at the prison we escorted an inmate who wasn't particularly violent to the nursing station. He was an average white dude, a buck 70 soaking wet, nothing compared to the 350lb+ violent tongans I had to deal with on a daily basis.
Because of policy he remained cuffed and shackled in back including a waist chain. We were told by the nurse to just stand outside the door in case she need us, she is a tough old broad who had been doing this longer than any of us had worked there, we weren't outside more than 20 seconds before we heard weird sounds coming from the office. She was underneath him on the ground.. with his teeth he had torn off her nose, cheeks and was working on her throat by the time we got in there.

She survived and had extensive plastic surgery but she now lives in seclusion, traumatized beyond belief and a face kids point and stare at.

I see your bravado much like this tough old gal... please realize that just because something hasn't happened to you doesn't mean it can't or wont. Any person, big/small, male or female would be a fool to not do EVERYthing in their power to prepare themselves for any number of scenarios.

My company will not allow me to carry a firearm, but I have had a bit of knife fighting training.. and there is nothing in the rules about carrying a box cutter knife. While I'm not up to the level as my instructor I'm confident I could get one or two major arteries in a scuffle... then I just have to wait a few seconds and it will be over.

Which is fine, nothing wrong with it at all. But lets be honest here. You're preparing for something that has never happened and while it certainly could happen, its not very likely. So if we're going to really honest, you're not keeping a gun in the truck for personal security reasons, you're keeping it in the truck because you like guns and want to have one with you. And again, nothing wrong with that. But if someone didn't know better and read a thread like this, they might get the idea that there is a measurable risk of being attacked in the truck and they are in danger if they don't keep a gun with them as well. Clearly that isn't the case.

The reality is searching google for 'driver attacked in truck' produces no cases of drivers being attacked inside their truck while searching google for 'airplane destroys house' produces several instances where houses have been destroyed by crashing airplanes. I don't think anyone is going live in cave instead of a house 'just in case'. Keep a gun in the truck because you like guns. But don't give the new kids the idea that they are in imminent danger if they don't do the same.

You are sorely misinformed my friend. Florida and Georgia have reciprocity on concealed weapons permits.

Just because you can't find it on google doesn't mean its never happened. A plane crashing into a house will get better media attention than a truck driver attacked in truck.

The simple matter is.. .its better to have it and never need it than it is to need it and not have it.

I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

If you choose to be unarmed.. thats YOUR decision... but don't come crying to anyone else when you're victimized.

I carry a gun all the time. I also have a very high situational awareness. My gun isnt my first resort.. or my safety net. Its a tool just like a hammer or a knife or anything else.

I've also worked the last 12 years as a paramedic in some very rough cities, and ive seen the results of being unarmed when someone comes a knockin with the intention of harming you.

I'd rather not be found beaten or shot to death in a pool of my own blood. If someone else decides to do great harm to me, then they've already dug their own grave. I will defend myself.

Do I want to kill anyone? Hell no, in fact I hope my gun never clears its holster other than practice on the shooting range... but I am prepared to defend myself, and prepared to pull that trigger if the time ever comes.

The only claims I've made are what I found when I searched google. I've drawn my own conclusions based on those results and I don't believe my post would lead anyone to believe otherwise.

So you assume that the search does not contain truck driver or trucker it is not happening, therefore your argument lacks any statistical data to assume validity of self defense on your findings..

Trucker or not everyone has the right to ward off attackers and preserve life regardless of anyone's personal beliefs, I nether advocate nor dispel the individuals rights to self defense in what manner they so select.

To preach from anyone's soap box on the evils of self defense is rather ironic, since it is not your life depending on it.

Please show me where I have said anything negative about a persons right to carry.

Please show me where I've said anything to lead anyone to believe that self defense is evil.
