Hauling antique trucks as personal use [non-commercial] means not making any money from shows, etc. as the DOT has fined clasic car guys after they won purses doing vintage racing.

Makes sense. At that point you're no different than a NASCAR team and they have to have a CDL to drive those rigs from race to race.

Racing for a profit is different than racing for participation. I have a guy a few miles away who races all over the place, he does it for participation and has fought Michigan over what he was doing and won in court and appeals court over the issue of his trucks being non-commercial. Now he has his trailer wrapped with the image of his 1927 Cadillac speedster with the car numbers on it and so on and was pulled over because of personal plates on his Mack and his trailer, ticketed, and told to get commercial plates.
