If trucking is your future. Skip college and start driving

    Priorities in stages
Stay in college... during off time drive a local truck... graduate college... get a good job... stay home have a regular life

I graduated after 1 year lol (didn't fail - quit).
Did construction for the summer then went to trucking school. (19). Drove local until 21 then hit the road.

I love to hate trucking. It can be rewarding. It is hard work. Under appreciated for the work you do. Somehow I don't want to do anything else. Not outside the industry anyway. This is an industry where if you do not stick up for yourself you will get absolutely eaten alive. Until you either quit, or die.

I actually graduated college with a degree in kinesiology. I honestly wanted to stop with my BS in Kin and just work, then reality hit, I chose the wrong field, we only get paid $11-15 an hr max for a physical therapist aide, we had to pursue further education to be successful. It took me 3 years to get accepted into one PT program, but since I had no money and couldn’t work because school is full time, I borrowed the max loan of 250k plus 6.8% interest rate. So I said f this and returned everything and decided to go to another route, that’s why I wanted to do trucking.

I know what you mean, you have to take a lot of crap and push through the worst and practically survive. What I like about trucking is that it teaches you how to survive on your own. But truckers are unappreciated, my friend is an O/O making close to 6 figures, but he’s out on the road a lot and only home once a week. I think he goes from LA to Oklahoma. He also paid off his truck in a month, pretty sure he bought it used.

My sister did kinesiology and found similar wages, then went on to do ultrasound tech. Lots of the schooling overlapped so it was easier for her. She makes good money now. High demand. Might be something to consider.

Don't just look at the dollars. I'd say explore all options before going into trucking. Unless the goal is get I to it, do it for a few years, actually bank some money, if you don't care for it you have some more options now.

I realize people will say that's not what we want in tbis industry, getting into it without any plan of making it a career. Doesn't mean you will be a careless driver. And you need to do what works for you.

Ya I know why you mean, don’t get me wrong PT is a great field but the amount of money paid to graduate school is ridiculous! I’m actually trying to get into the nursing program since it’s chepaer and pays the same amount as a PT this year, if I don’t get into the program I’m going into trucking because I’m literally living pay check to pay check. My loans aren’t that much from my undergrad it’s about 30k but I have like 5 credit cards that I need to pay monthly and they all add up. I was also thinking of doing trucking but doing a local route since I’m married and my wife wants to have kids. So far I been researching and it’s pretry hard to find a local job, a lot of places want experience and the only place that would offer it is the mega carriers. My plan was to maybe go to CDL school, go with a mega carrier for a bit then find a local job and also get endorsements as well. I wanted local because I also have mild asthma, it’s not as bad when I was a kid because I stay active.

@Chinatown Can suggest some options that may work for you. May even get a local run right out of the gate. You'll need to provide nearest large city.
