Have a 1999 Peterbilt 378. Previous owner has put chrome window drops on. Don't really care for them because its harder to see behind and up in the mirror. The top of the mirror arms are bolted in. Does the door come apart to get at nuts on the back or is this threaded in? Will probably have to leave the bottom because it looks riveted into the mirror.

If memory serves me correctly, on my 91 379 the factory nuts are spot welded to the inside frame of the door. Fairly certain mine broke and had to pull the window insulation strip at the top and use a very thin needle nose plier to hold new nuts. but man I haven't had that truck since 02 so don't trust my memory as gospel.

The upper is probably a nut sert, which is the same as a pop rivet. You drill a hole, slid the nut sert into the hole and expand it with the special tool. The problem is that after time they like to spin in the hole. If it spins you would have to pull it out and get a new nut sert. Harbor Freight has the tool and nut serts pretty cheap. They probably have cheap pop rivet guns if you want to do the lower mount.
