    Figured it would work the same as the coolant temp gauge and coolant temp light do. Guess I was wrong

    your 3406e is a 40 pin ecm that basically operates the engine where as the 70 pin ecm operates the engine controls and in dash gauges from what i understand

    My dash gauges are definitely independent of the ecm. I do know there are some engine protection parameters thru the ecm and some multifunction out to turn on the check eng / stop eng. Eng fan etc
