pete has the aluminum hood, W900 has fiberglass hood how much difference in weight is there, fiberglass should be heaver, maybe its only 50 lbs or so but every little bit helps, and if both have the same setup, tanks, engine and wheel base, the pete should be lighter, also do they both have the same turning radius, thanks, yes thats two questions

I had a W-9 and it was a great truck! Very heavy though. My wife and I teamed and had to really watch out what we kept in the truck. When chain season was over we would leave our chains at home so we could haul a little more fuel. Man I gotta tell you, I loved that truck! My w-9 was the best running truck I had ever owned. Other than the norm we had hardly no problems. I think the turning radius was the only bad thing about it. You learn to adjust though.

the biggest weight difference is in the sleepers. KW's are pretty heavy and if you get the big studio sleeper the trucks are pigs.
petes will turn circles inside a KW. KW's turn like a cruise ship.
But KW's have about the best interior of any truck on the road1989 Pete Thanks this. -
yep, little heavy, thats what i thought,

This is like comparing a GMC to a Chevy....

Generally speaking a 379/389 will be lighter than a comparable W9 depending on specs.
Bigger is ALWAYS heavier. I've seen 379's tip the scales at 20,000# plus and I've seen 'em at 16,000#'s...it's all in the specs.
I haul mostly bulk raw vegetables 8 months out of the year so weight is of primary importance to me. My 379 has a door weight of 18,000... it's on a diet plan right now and I should be able to shave 1500# off of it after I'm done. Granted most guys would never do what I'm doing to save weight but I'm kinda on a mission so I can make a little more $$$ and make it easier for me to stay on the bigger roads instead of running so many back rods. -
Working Class Patriot and cynicalsailor Thank this.

I'm a company driver with a 2004 W9 and the comments about the weight and turning circle are very true. I have never driven a 379, but driving this W9 (picked it up in LA and then picked up a load in Vernon before I was even signed on as a driver) was a very steep learning curve experience!

Not to be a smart arse,
But on all Trucks there is a adjustment on the trail arm, it looks like a HUGE set screw, this controls how much you can turn the wheel, factory setting is a safe setting, but there is room for improvement, you can adjust both the left and right, decreasing your turning radius on any truck, just be mindful of wheel rub, etc.
On the 379 I was running they were adjusted in to allow for tight turns,
Had an 2001 W-9 with the studio Heavy as hell, adjusted the radius and still took a country mile to turn it, the W-9 had more room in it by far, and Comfy as hell.
The Pete was lighter, my empty weight on it was 18,500 full of fuel this truck was spec'd all the bells and whistles. Miss that #### Pete.
