    rear end ratio, shift habits, gross weight could have alot to do with is as well.

    Looking to buy a 386 or a t660 next year myself

    Rear-end ratio, don't know. Shifting habits, pretty bad so far, but improving. Heck the first week needed the clutch adjusted, since the guy that drove it before me, (according to the mechanic) just drove the hello out of it. Didn't do PTIs, well he did make sure it had all 18 wheels and the tires had air, and it would start and stop. The clutch was bad enough, at a full stop, with the peddle to the floor, the only way it would go in was grind.

    I've noticed this 13spd can be like a pregnant woman, changes it mind when it wants shifted. I try to upshift around 1500, however sometimes it won't until just about 1600. Downshifting generally around 13-1400.

    We're required, unless going out of Kansas, to load 52k, which puts my gross at ~85.5k.

    I went back through my previous trip sheets and found that I have got 5.7mpg. Like I commented on previously, I have to go through a lot of small towns, no interstate driving. So I'm doing a lot of slowing down to 30mph, stopping at stop lights, then back up to around 68mph on the highways.

    It's funny to see your average speed for a trip is only 43 mph.

    Don't take my fuel economy as a good overall representation, to base your decision of buying one. I'm still learning on how to get better fuel mileage with it. During my "orientation" I had to watch a video about the ACERT engines and progressive shifting. It claimed that it can be shifted at lower rpms (sooner), but so far, under load, I'm finding that my truck doesn't agree. If I don't at least get it up to between 15-1600 rpm, it will not go in easy.

    The 386 with the Cummins I drove got at least 7 mpg. Loved that truck after I got used to the small sleeper. Mine had an Eaton 9 spd.

    eaton, have you tried the good ole double clutch. i do it all the time and pop the gear right around 15k depending on the load.
    if yur allowed next time you top the tanks off grab you a couple o lucas fuel stuff. it will help clean out the build up and improve mileage some but not all the way.

    remember to that using the jake does burn a bit more full having to reverse the forward motion.
    you asked about the difference of the 86 vs 87? i can give you a few hints.
    turning radius. the 87 has much shorter turn which has to do with length of the frame.
    space. bunk area will be generally the same but slight variations due to the customers specifics
    and the nose. if you notice that the 86 is longer than the 87 so there will be visual issues somewhat.
    among other things they say the aero is better on the 86 but as you know by your mileage the more angles the wind has to go past the more resistance there is.

    btw. i drive a T600. it looks similar to the 86 but a tad smaller.
    the reason i know about the 86 vs 87 is i drove for Star - Red one from IL for awhile and that is the rigs we used there.
