What bushings did you use? I've had roller bushings recommended over all urethane.
KB3MMX Thanks this. -
Wondering if any one can help I have a peterbilt 389 that wonders all over the road while steering if I let go of the steering wheel it will travel straight for a fair amount of time but then once I start stearing it won't go straight and will go left right and the slightest bump will move the steering got alignment done checked king pins and tires checked out good

I hope someone can help with my 2003 Pete 379.
Talk about road wander, holly cow x 10 !!
Checked tires, steering box, king pins,
U-joints in steering column, rear drive bushings, stabilizer bushings, entire front control arms, cross members, frame from front to back, springs all around, you name it.
I remember, a shop I use to use years back was working on a similar truck, similar problem, and the shop owner said Pete 379's are known for axle stub breakage ( on drives of course) and resulting symptoms are what I'm experiencing. But ya, who's to say my issue is exactly that, a broken axle stub.
Does anyone have any input ?
I'm steering left & right to go straight, all day long, and still I'm inadvertently crossing the zipper constantly.
Shop I've been using rebushed the drive spring eyes, but found nothing more.
HELP..!!!! -
Ok so it sounds like you have been all over this thing and nothing is obviously loose to cause your concern. You need to locate a good alignment shop that can diagnose the issue.
The first things that come to mind.
You have a steering component that is bound and not loose. This will cause constant over-correction and will not let the steering naturally return to center as it should. Could be anything from a steering shaft ujoint to a king pin.
Next is I hear nothing of alignment. Has it been on a rack? What's the numbers? -
Most modern trucks don't run much caster and have weak return to center as compared to older trucks.
Sagged springs can also cause loss of caster.
You can have Caster wedges installed in the front end between the axle and springs.
First step, get it to a shop to be checked and see where it's at.
