I have an 05 Pete 379. Truck runs good and will derates intermittently and won't build boost over 25 psi. When it does this I can shut truck off and turn back on and it resets the computer and runs fine. may run good for hours before it derates again and won't build boost over 25 psiChecked all grounds. Changed boost sensor, intake air temperature sensor and atmospheric sensor. After this it only derated once all day which was good. Found oil in the atmospheric sensor when I changed it around threads and also in the connector. Could oil have gotten in the engine harness and causing problems. Any ideas appreciated. Had truck on cat et when truck was derated and no codes then or when it runs fine
Pete with Acert derates no code

Have you checked the intake actuators?
-
What codes are popping up? You know how to use the cruise switch to retrieve codes?
-
No codes at all. The truck has a pdi file so I believe the actuators are backed off. Could be wrong about that though

Mainly the truck drives great. However, out of nowhere you can feel the power back off like the engine has derated. Then the truck won't build boost over 25 psi. It will still run just with the limited boost. When I come to a stop I can turn the truck off and then restart and the truck runs normal again. ??

The key off fixing the issue is screwy ....
This ones over my pay grade.. I'll ask some questions today.Curtis83 Thanks this. -
Only thing I can really think of is there's a temperature sensor reading wrong. When the Cat MBN bridge engine first came out a couple guys had similar issues with derates. Can or have you monitored all engine related temperatures in ET?

That's an odd one that's going to be hard to fix. PDI disables many things that set faults. I worked on a Cummins once that wiped all the rod and main bearings. Turns out that the PDI file in it disabled the oil pressure warning, so no fault was set, but the engine abuse history showed very low oil pressure (less than 7 psi) for 15 minutes before it started knocking.
The coolant temp is possible, cold run mode limits boost when it's cold. Resting after cycling the key is odd, but something to look at. If your truck has NAMUX gauges, the temp sensor gets it's signal from the data link, so it get the same signal as the engine, so see if the temp is dropping when it derates.Heavyd Thanks this. -
It's going to be a "latched" fault. I agree the custom software is preventing the code from being logged or not allowing it to be read. But, basically the fault is going active intermittently, then the fault conditions clears itself, but the actual fault will stay active instead of turning inactive until the next key cycle. This is why the problem is corrected by the key cycle, but then happens again later. I think the best person to look at this is whoever wrote the software and who ever programmed it.
