If you run a APU and sip say 3 gallons overnight versus the main motor at god only knows how many gallons a hour or night and can heat and cool the living space adequately, that APU will eventually pay itself.
Just keep in mind that some states offer a APU tolerance over 80000 or axle. I forget which.
I have zero experience with APU and when they first came out, my bosses laughed me OUT of the building. "TOOO FANCY" too expensive. Too heavy, too too too too. Al-wright I get it. You ant to splash 40 dollars in fuel every night fine. -

Guys that try to sell you on APUs will say if you idle for 350 nights a year it will pay for itself in like a year or something. In reality how many nights a year do you really need heat or AC? Probably depends a lot of where you run. Contrary to what seems to be popular opinion you don't need heat or AC every night. Run some numbers. I think a new name brand APU may run around $10,000. There are cheaper alternatives. Gas powered generators work. If you are in some stupid cold climate remember you may need to idle anyway to keep the fuel warm and make sure the truck starts in the morning.

An apu can be put on any truck. If the engine in your 359 is old technology, then perhaps extended idle effects on your engine should be looked into while researching the apu. I suggest this video on youtube to start with.
It is discussing cat, but it applies to all brands.
