I didn’t get to peterbilt yet but I’m leaning towards what you said. I sprayed the belts down and stil makes that noise coming from clutch area. I’m on hard regularly so I won’t let this thread go to waste. I will report back when I nip this down

I had a feeling you were right. Disconnected a/c belt, put on a new oem peterbilt belt, all pulls clean, new tensioner, tried wd 40 trick. No change in that nasty sound and its coming directly from the clutch area. Shame becuase the clutch is only 3 years old but been doing it a while. I want to swap out for a new radiator in fall and pull the hood for new bushings on the hinges. So i guess ill just swap out the fan clutch as well. Might as well do oil cooler at that time. Hornton sells a 2 speed fan clutch. Anyone have any feed back on those. Asked around and noone ever heard of them. Just go with standard hornton?

I loved the 2 speed fan on the cummins. No need to worry about the fan kickin on kicking up dust in dirt lots in the summer when the a/c was on and it didn’t cycle with the a/c over night ether. Thats about the only advantage to it.

When the fan is just on its first speed, is it still quiet while rowing through the gears? One thing I don’t want to hear is a fan roaring. Is it pretty quiet? Obviously it will get loud if it needs to engage in full cooling. Wandering how it is while slightly engaged. Thanks

Don’t spray crap on the belts, this can shorten the life of the belt.

your problem is with the fan clutch itself. Marmonman mentioned what to do, I have gone through this a few times.

Yes it was quiet, like it wasn’t even turning.

I used Kit Masters for a Kysor rebuild kit. Parts arrived quickly, and it took like ten minutes to rebuild once I had it off the truck.
