I have a 579 and wondering if there’s an adjustment to tighten the tilt force when it’s locked in place
It’s not falling down but I can get it to move with some force but don’t believe that it should and never noticed it on any of my last 3 Pete’s or my KW
Peterbilt 579 tilt slipping

I was digging yesterday and didn’t come up with much to help you even from TRW. We just don’t see many troubles out of this column.
I know the tilt works off a cam style lock with a sliding disc. Maybe once u get in there it can be tightened?
Next time we have one tore apart I will look closer.GYPSY65, Another Canadian driver and 062 Thank this. -
@GYPSY65
See attached diagram.
I searched for COL204 and came up empty. This should be a TRW service bulletin or procedure. You can attempt to contact them directly to see if they can send it to you.
I would remove the cotter pin from the castle nut on the tilt lever LH side and tighten one notch to see if the clamp load is sufficient to prevent movement. If not keep going one notch at a time until the lock holds and release is good.
