Like semi crazy I do have the I-Shift. The only difference he has to shift all the time and I put it in D for dumb and go.

It has the premium shifter with economy and power option and the Eco roll feature. It seems to help since it gets at least a mile per gallon more than our other Volvos. It also helps in the hills since it will modify the shifting ranges for up and down shifts. The eco roll feature disconnects drive train at coasting conditions and gets rid of all the drag and helps with the fuel mileage.

So Chuckk, you've had your 587 for roughly 2 years now?
    How is it holding up?
If you had it to do again, would you buy a 587 today?

thats really good and I really hope not to discount it but, in two 55 mph states, you should be doing better than folks running say ,I-15 up to salt lake city from AZ where we visit 75mph alot more.

Just because the speed limit is 75 doesn't mean you should run 75. I'm not saying you need to drive 55 everywhere, but if you are trying to maximize fuel economy you gotta keep it in the 60 to 65 range.

In agreeance with spyder, optimum fuel mileage is around 60 mph. My fathers truck, which I'll buy next year (2000 sterling w/ n14 elect + 550 HP 1850 ft*lbs) had a calendar year 8.07 mpg. It's sad that the new/newer trucks don't do that much better.
The biggest reason for the trucks that do get much better fuel mileage is the limitations. Maxed out @ 62mph makes a big difference. My opinion on the second reason is the 6x2 over a 6x4.
Now not saying that all the new trucks aren't getting great fuel mileage, but the few that are I feel are not worth laying the money out on.

That would be interesting indeed...or a Detroit that has been breathed on a little, and so on...
