If they do they will be pretty limited. Supposedly KW is only running 1 line in Renton for the narrow cabs. KW salesman in Yakima told my friend if they’re going to keep building them they would need to put the digital dash in.

It’s probably easier for KW to keep producing the T8/W9 a little bit longer than Pete could do the 3 series cabs. The 389 itself makes up a lot larger portion of Peterbilts books than the W9 does for KW. And with the way the EPA credit thing works that would make sense too. KW makes so many more T680s than they do W900s, especially compared to the ratio of 579s to 389s Peterbilt makes.
I think the T8/W9 line is on the chopping block sooner than anyone would like. -

Well that about spells it out then. On the other hand, there’s an outfit I know down in Shreveport still waiting on two T800 orders to come in, both for dump work. But they placed those orders sometime in the fall last year or maybe earlier. They have a T880 already though and they can’t complain with it. Just different from what they’re used to.

It says 34 years but that’s a typo. Here’s an interesting story about the 489 concept from way back in 1999.

I found something to like and hate about them simultaneously. The way the exhaust works. Halfway in the spool section is a bellows connection. The top stack section is mounted/bolted to the cab and the lower elbow section is bolted to the frame. This eliminates the slider clamp connection at the top stack that needs bushings nearly every year. However, I’m sure that bellows connection will not be cheap to replace. It will also be a conundrum for aftermarket stacks.
