So you're looking for one with a Cat in it then.

Didn't know Cummins made a 625, I thought they only did the 600...?

Well since being issued my 388...I must say; "#### this is a great truck!" From the ride, electronics, gauges, ergonomics, & looks...by far the best truck I've driven in 14 years.

Pete screwed the pooch when they made the 389. Really messed up a classic. But the goverment is ruining them too. I have driven Cornshellers, Freightliner FLD120, 97 Pete 379exhd, 02 Pete 379exhd, T-600 dumptruck, and now my 05 Pete 379exhd. Pete's are the best. I wouldn't turn my nose up at a W-900L. But a unibuilt 379 is always a good choice.

Personally, I think the 389 is a far better looking truck.
First and formost, the hood is 4" longer than the 379.
    Conversation over.

But, Ill go on to say that the headlights were a shock at first, but now I like them better. The grille is rounded off at the corners, and the lights match. The wole truck is just slick..
I like the fillers behind the front fender better also.

Pete had a chance to update the "platinum" interior, which I think is not what I would call "platinum". It's still plain and basic, and could use a better stitch pattern and more padding.

well you know what they say opinions are like #########S--Having said that--I've owned both w9's and 379s.
1-Wouldn't own a 379 after late 04--frame mounted mirrors suck IMHO--and they started getting plastic--and forget the 389
2-liked all my w9 first w9b then 2 w9L last one 2002 switched back and forth
    Still liked my 82/359best
But in terms of newer--the 86" Studio is nice but--TOO HEAVY and as nice as thhe couch is only good for a nap-great for relaxin--but dont like sleeping upstairs to get in a real bed.
therefor I prefer a 379-almost 2k lighter American Class Loaded--Also I can turn a 379 around inside a W9--Mine 2003 379 280wb and can still turn inside almost any W9--even with lighter shaved steer stops.
Either way it is your basic chevy ford argument--and I like to keep it friendly and good natured.
    Just my $.02

those guys go broke because they spend more time at the chrome zone, the streakin beacon, and in the back row buffing than they do runnin down the road....and when there running down the road its for $1.00 a mile and they think there setting the world on fire...IMO..

Peterbilt 379 pre 2005 are my favorites. The newer 379's and 388's, I do not like. Too much plastic. A brand new 388 rattled more than my 1999 379 did. The square dash and the 2002-2005 dash were stylish, and gave a strong "truck" feel as well as elegance with the wood appearance. The new plastic dash I want to rip out and throw out on the road. I'd rather guess my speed and look at bare wires. Long live toggle switches!!!

As for anything else, limited experience. I'll stick to talking about what I know.

Older petes if I have to drive one. I really liked the 379x They came out with. But I dont like the Clutch pedal the way the have it. Standin' a 6'4" with a size fourteen boot I cant hardly move in them petes! That pedal gits in the way all the time. Drive one at work haulin heavy machinery out to jobs but my daily ride is a W9b. Lots more room.

Your opinion is so typical of a guy who drives a truck for no reason other than trying to make money. This is some of the typical ignorance that turns me off to 98% of the "truckers" on the road today. Some people do things for the love of what they do and the excitement they feel for the trucks and their components. I wonder if you judge the mechanic who has $10,000 in his toolbox when $2000 would do the job. Think about what you say before you say it - both you and the mechanic you quoted.

I have to go and deliver my $3.00 a mile load now - something you've probably never done. And I'm not paying some company 25 or 30% to provide me with a $3,000 dry van, plates and insurance while they skim all the cream off the top of the loads they offer. Don't hate the players, hate the game.
