you will need every part of the pete you pull the eng. out of to make it work $ wise

Easiest way is to find a complete engine and engine wiring harness out of another 379. The 18 should bolt right up to the Detroit bell housing.
To give you an idea why its very important to get the new engine from a 379.... About 6 years ago I did a simple engine replacement of a cat L10 in a Sterling. The replacement engine a cat L10 from some other make, I think an International. Took the best part of a week to pull all the parts I couldnt use off the new engine and replace them with all the parts off the old engine. I think the only parts that were the same were the long block assembly and the bellhousing. -
A cat L10?

Cat c15 single turbo

Yes the trans will fit, but the coolant/exhaust/intake plumbing will have to be "adjusted". I wouldn't use the old harness from the "donor" truck. I would however use the vin.# of the "donor" truck to get a new one, or have one made. You might want to hang on to the donor vin you will need it for any parts needed later on

Ok very helpful this is a first for me wanna make sure I have as much knowledge as I can get..do I have to program the ECM to properly sync to the trans
-
Probably, just make sure the new ECM knows the correct final drive of the 18 spd.
