I am a driver for a small custom harvester that's looking to keep a few trucks OTR and steer away from the fields. We are looking at new trucks and don't really know what to buy! We have 388's now with the isx3 motors. We do know we are going to give the paccar motor a chance, but as for driver comfort and decent fuel mileage what do y'all recommend? How do you drivers of a w9 like your trucks? As well as the 386, t660 drivers?
    your input is greatly appreciated!

I can say I liked my t800 much better than the 386 I test drove for a week it didn't have the same legroom other than that they are both built buy the same company

My dad has a 2006 Kenworth W900L with the 8 bag suspension, and he loves the thing! Ive never driven it, but I did drive a 04 t600 for a while. It wasnt bad, but it wasnt great if you no what i mean. Ive never drove a pete, other than a 1994.

I have driven W900's,t800's,t600's 377 Pete's 378 Pete's 379 and the 386. I think if I were to buy another truck it would be between the 386 and t800. I currently drive a 386 with a 63" sleeper now and it rides good turns great and has pleanty of room for tall people I'm 6'5".
The t800 I have driven those in the past they do not ride as smooth but have a great turning radius driver room is good.

On the comfort side most reports of what you are looking at come in good. But you are looking at units that are on the bottom end of the fuel economy game. Not a big deal during harvest. Crap MPG regardless. But OTR it really matters.

Now you don't mention where you are at. I would make most of your decision based on your local dealer. In Central IL you will rarely see a new Pete because that dealer has a special place in Hell reserved for them. The KW/Volvo dealer is a typical dealer, sometimes even good.

    Cannon Thanks this.

If you never go to CA, I'd build a glider kit and be done with it.

W900 all the way! Once you've driven one of these for a while everything else is a compromise! But as bill said you will see better mpg from the aero proven trucks.

You can still get 7mpg from a Pete 379 pulling heavy loads, just have to have it specked properly and tuned.

I have no experience with them but on the forum I have come across pretty poor reviews of the MX engines. I would stick with the cummins, but even they are not the best engine out there.

Thanks for all the info guys!!! We are located in Kansas and we have a Pete dealer 20 miles away and kw 90 miles away. I myself would love a glider but my boss likes the warranty with a new truck. We have a few months to decide before we order so any key points that someone wants to make go right ahead ill keep watching for new comments. Thanks again!!
