Do you have to run Cali? If so try to get maintenence records on either one. Which ever has the least amount of issues. From what I'm seeing these new motors need overhauls round the 500k mark so take that into consideration. What are you hauling
RANGER68 Thanks this. -
If I had to drive it, definitely the Pete, I have drove both of those trucks (Penske rentals) The 2012 Pete still feels good on the two lanes and curves, but to me the Freightliner feels like your pulling a semi trailer with a golf cart, especially in side winds.
The older inline Detroits were like bic lighters, when the fire goes out you throw it away. Not much experience with the new ones. I am a little prejudice, but only cause every Pete I ever drove, I liked, even the old wore out ones.
At 400k Im betting that Pete has a lot more miles left in it, and guessing the Freightliner will be on the ramps within 200k (800k seems to be their magic number).RANGER68 Thanks this. -

normally I would go with the freight, I like how they drive better than the pete, especially the turning radius. But with the miles on the dd15 I would have to go with the pete. Have driven both and the ISX seems to be a more reliable unit. The one I'm driving now has had some problems, but nothing major and it has never left me stranded... can't say that about the dd15 I use to drive.
RANGER68 Thanks this. -
I can agree on 800k golden mark on the ISX, around that milage they seem to like to eat a headgasket or flatten a cam. Tho with the rebuild and the revisions im told they can hold a 1 mill on the rebuild.

The Pete, its much better truck than a Freightliner. And a Cummins is better than a Detroit.
RANGER68, semi retired semi driver and poppapump1332 Thank this. -
Not really comparable, but I was driving a 300 k Pete in the oil field last night. It is still tight and quite.
You need the wet kit???? Its excess weight if you don't. I assume you could make more money with it than hauling a dry van. -
Peterbilt with the cummins easy decision
semi retired semi driver Thanks this. -
Whats the price difference between them?
