Watch out for these so called "warranties" on used fleet trucks! I bought a used 2001 reconfigured daycab from Select Trucks back in 2005. Came with a 100,000 mile/2 year warranty on the engine and driveline. Thought that would be ok as I didn't put alot of miles on every year. Well the first incident happened about 4 months after I got the truck. Trans was making a small ticking sound that all of a sudden morphed into a big loud-##### growl! Limped to a nearby dealer with it sounding like rocks were rolling around in the trans. Dealer took 2 weeks to repair trans and also tried to overcharge me for replacing the clutch! Figuring downtime into this it would have been cheaper for me to have the truck towed home (about 120 miles) and paid to have my mechanic put a reman trans in!
Second incident happened about 3 months later. Truck wasn't running right so took to local dealer (due to "warranty") and was told motor was shot at 490,000 miles! Bearings down to copper! Truck had 445,000 on it when I bought it! Talked to warranty people and they said they didn't cover normal wear! So I said rather heatedly "so you're saying you sold me a truck with a worn out engine!". No response. $13,500 later, 1 month downtime and reworked truck loan back to work I went missing my old truck!
Moral of story is large carriers that turn in trucks at 500,000 miles probably maintained them just enough to make 500,000 miles! Probably about 6 or 7 oil changes IMHO! Read the fine print carefully on these warranties!
