Imagine how many more loads that won't be delivered on time due to all the added time lost from sitting in an endless line of slow moving trucks. There wil be lots of empty shelves. Rail will probably be faster at that point.

I'm not trying to convince anyone to sign a petition one way or the other, and I don't care if the law passes or not. The whole point is that without data to back up an argument, the petition might as well say "thoughts and prayers against speed limiters".

People are going to poke holes in these arguments. Look at the last part of the petition, it disagrees with the laws of physics. People who understand fuel economy know that after a certain point, speed is a detriment to MPG. For people that don't know, it's a Google search away. Even on these forums, most people agree that slowing down saves fuel, but they will make more by driving faster than they save by slowing down. But the argument is about fuel economy, not revenue. Claiming the environmentalists are wrong about fuel economy is false. If he wanted to phrase the argument of cost savings vs environmental impact, people could decide on those merits. But misinformation is not really helping his cause, especially if the idea is to get people outside of the echo chamber to agree with him.

I'm for punishment and regulation both in reasonable fashion. I don’t feel like its overreach at all because I'm of the opinion that it's safer to driver a little slower than faster but to each their own.

What do you feel the maximum safe speed should be regulated to?

I think 70 is best, but for open road situations west of DFW or San Antonio, I'll concede 75. Me personally, I'd never even run 70. I think if they gave a range up to 75, that's fair.

I keep it around 68 most of the time but we don't need anymore govt oversight, nothing good ever comes of it. Plus when I'm heading east into jersey in the am and feel like rolling 75 with rush hour traffic I'm gonna do just that.

I think that's fair. We both know it's coming anyway. I'd like to see 72. I never run above 64. It's funny how we are not that far apart. We might disagree but not that much. I don't want it to happen, but since it is I think smart people should decide. I consider you smart and fair. Good discussion.

Right back at ya. I don't have issues with regulations unless it's tyranny or unless it don't help anyone. I can't imagine them setting a limit of 60, not in the era if social media. Plus, these folks are gonna want your votes and support down the line lol. I want people to be safe, but I want people to make their living without a lot of wasted effort either.
