Only opinion I have is this. They didn't make the punishment up for him. It was already there. What's the saying? "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time."
Good, bad, indifferent doesn't really matter. What matters is the crime and punishment were at least published before hand.

I’ve been out here as a truck driver now for 3.5 years. Just tonight for the fifth time I have witnessed a truckstop with a huge wide open parking area that had three trucks in it and somehow a rookie pulls in here and managed Just smashed into the side of this old owner operators truck who was sleeping. No of course I’ve seen other incidents, but this was the fifth one where it would seemingly be virtually impossible to smash into something yet these rookie drivers managed to still do it and find a way somehow.
The one I saw before this one was a truck parked side-by-side, backed in how you’re supposed to next to another truck. Funny they were the only two trucks in the parking lot. Lol driver comes back out with his bag of food jumps in the driver seat and takes off and turns right immediately. Just like you would a car. Taking off the whole front end of the truck next to him.
my point? I realize we all had to start somewhere but these companies need to be held liable for these drivers they’re sending out there that they know are not ready.chimbotano, dwells40, LtlAnonymous and 7 others Thank this. -
Ok let's revert to mob rule on this one.
1.5 million signatures on a petition that , and I quote:
"asking Colorado Governor Jared Polis and the Jefferson County Courts to grant clemency or to offer time served to Aguilera-Mederos."
So there are a significant number of people that have NO idea what facts were presented in court who want to let him go absolutely free.
And, since no one who is reading this thread was in court, they also have NO idea all the facts presented in the case.
No thanks. I will trust the courts long before any opinions expressed by those who are ill prepared to pass judgement.
On this case, and a myriad of high profile cases that hit the news.dog tired, ProfessionalNoticer, buzzarddriver and 7 others Thank this. -
"to grant clemency or to offer time served"....for what?
Surviving a Court Case and Trial?
He should be forgiven for killing 4 People and maiming many other People??
The FACT he could not READ ENGLISH SIGNAGE, so give him a pass?
1.5 million people of "questionable ethics"! Apparently to these folks,
Aguilera-Mederos "did NOTHING WRONG", so set him free.
110 years appears eggregious or incompatible yet sentence would not have been any different if given "Life Plus 1 Day". -
25 years is basically a life sentence. Coming out of jail at 46 years old - no savings, no job skills/experience, trying to start from scratch. IMO, after you hit 10 years there is diminishing returns on longer prison sentences.

I personally don’t have a dog in this fight
But when I took my CDL I rented a truck that some guy had 6 of at the dmv
I think it was like $150 to test in
If I used mine it would have had to been looked over before the dmv would get in. Not a problem but $150 was just as easy
I was talking to the truck owner before my road test and asked what the cost was if so so failed for a 2nd day
He said he has customers who he charges $1800 to and they can test every day until they pass
So these guys are learning daily what they need to remember for the next day
And no where in that road can test was there a mountain scenario
This is another part of the problemLast edited: Dec 16, 2021

Questions?
Are Amtrak engineers held responsible to the same standards when people die on trains?
How about when there is an equipment failure with brakes or track issues?
Also there are not many of them but when there is a plane crash with people dying but the pilot survives is the pilot charged and sentenced to a hundred years?
How about every day single car accidents where there is a fatality but the driver survives is the driver always charged and given a hundred years?
Obviously applying the same standards the driver had to do something wrong or there wouldn’t be an accident?
Is the driver charged because it was foggy and they drove off the road and someone died?
They should no better to drive in the fog so they get a hundred years?
I am far far far from a snow flake but I despise “ different rules for different people “
I am talking about the may violations and would be crimes I witness on the road every day by 4 wheelers but yet nothing is done.
The laws are for every motorist not just professional drivers and all violators should be held to the same standards.LtlAnonymous and AModelCat Thank this. -
Nobody's saying to give the guy a free pass to walk. He ####ed up MAJORLY. I still don't think the guy deserves to die in prison for what happened.

That phrase don't even apply here. That phrase applies only when there truly is intent to commit a crime. I don't see the intent. I agree with some of the other members, I highly doubt this was on his agenda when he awakened that morning.
