One of the great plans was to start using remote wireless backing cameras.. In very few cases was it a great idea.. having some drivers looking at a monitor inside the truck while backing into a tight area and NOT outside the truck was just not a great idea. Experienced drivers could use the cameras as they already knew what to look for and could use the cameras as designed.. new people would just end up cratering something..

That's just it, I'm from a totally different generation. We always strive for constant improvement. When we make a mistake, it hurts our internal goals and teaches a lesson without any outside intervention. My generation tends to be perfectionists and we take pride in doing everything right. The same type of error rarely ever happens again because we honestly figure out what conditions really caused the error, and then find ways to eliminate all of those sources. Back in the good old days, a mistake resulted in improvement and added to the experience level of that person. That person is now a much safer person than before the mistake!

It appears that today's generation is a don't give a $%$# generation. Now they think a mistake is a trend that only gets worse. That brand of thinking is totally wrong when applied to my generation, and possibly to many good folks even in today's generation.

I have never had any DOT reportable accidents, and my personal record is spotless. The first incident I had in trucking was a dock scratch backing in heavy ice and snow conditions. Since then, I have never had another incident like that, even in terrible truck stops and very tight places packed with ice and snow, and we have had plenty this year. That incident has actually made me a safer driver. That's what experience is all about.

The current safety mentality is the same as old Barney Fife shooting himself in the foot. No one is going to get experience because they get fired for the least little things, and now we have more inexperienced first timers on the road than ever before in history. How can that be safe for the public? It Isn't!!! If the insurance industry is behind this, they are cutting off their nose to spite their face! Very shallow thinking is running our country today.
