Ok big deal you are from monaca or the area. Me, born in raised in Rochester. If you haven't worked for Pgt you do not know enough about the company. All your opinion is based off of is the beaver county drama bs rumors. As for being a simple minded company steel hauling drone, I own my truck I am an IC with Pgt. I did not do a lease purchase with the ccompany I went to hunters in butler and bought my truck. Also I am a flatbedder not just simply a steel hauler. I specialize in o/d and oil/gas field. Not many steel coils for
    me.

OK, look...being with them as an IC is understandable after you have experience....my main point is they were never known to be very good at securement training or safety issues which in my mind for a newbie starting out is far more important than making miles. The OP is a new non-experienced want to be flatbedder so I'm saying IMO it's far better to go with a starter company who is going to stress securement and safety as a top priority right off the bat, plus getting experience on a lot of various load types especially the real ugly ones......I'm sure you just didn't pop out of the womb knowing everything there is to know about setting the load, dunnage, bridging, strapping, chaining, padding, blanketing and tarping.......so I'm saying it's best for a newbie to go somewhere for a couple of years to get that experience and then if you want to make a move then you are gonna be a lot more comfortable knowing you can handle just about anything they throw at you. I've just seen way too many PGT trucks, especially the coil haulers flipped over and worse......and not just around Beaver County........now granted yes this was 10+ years ago when it seemed to be really bad so if they have changed their ways since then, good for them......but that is how they were perceived when I moved away.

Now something much more important.........HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!!!

Ok I will agree with you on the newbie issue. Pgt should have never started to hire students or people without experience the training is geared to someone with flatbed experience. They have gotten better but not to much as far as training goes. Other than that its a good place to be. And yes here we go steelers!!!!!!!

Hoping BigMan777 is still floating around and occasionally checking in.

Many of you know me around here, God knows I've been a member long enough. I let my Commercial Endorsement go last year, cause I'm just too blasted lazy to take my DOT Phys. form up to the DOT office for appropriate filing. Since then I landed a position as an independent contractor doing merchandising in my local area. Yeah....that was a bust. Just over $2,000 in six months, and my expenses were around $3,000 to earn it. Too big an area to cover, too few contracts to cover expenses. And since I had to pay my fuel, vehicle maintenance, communication and paperwork expense, so forth and so on.....I gave up on the whole deal.

So I'm looking into funding for a CDL school thing to get the license back and head back out on that ol' big road. Only interested in going flatbed, no more vans for me. PGT is at the top of my list of companies I'd like to run for, since they are (sorta) local for me. I'm only about 2 hours north of the headquarters, ha ha....

For BigMan, do you know anything about the training program? Is it a set number of weeks, or drive hours? Are there any trainers I should try to get in with? Any who should be avoided at all costs? Do the trainers typically run team with trainees? Also, is Miss Rhonda Yost still working there? Or do I have to go through the Recruitment line, and if so are these actual PGT employees or a third party recruiting firm?

Thanks in advance to BigMan, or anyone else who provides answers.

The training program from what I understand depends on your experience level and how fast you learn. There are no set amount of hours, days or weeks. As far as I know Pgt does not allow the trainer, trainee to run as a team unless absolutely needed. As far as trainers go I would recommend mark labranze ( not sure of the spelling) he is a friend of mine and is good at what he does. I do not know of any to avoid as I have not heard any bad things about trainers. Rhonda yosy is still with Pgt. I really can not see Rhonda leaving any time soon. Although she is still with Pgt she was promoted a few months ago. She is now in charge of all independent contractors. I would call the recruiting hotline. All Pgt recruiters are Pgt employees. Most of the recruiters are in Monaca. There are a few out of other terminals.

the drug screen is a urine test. Securement training is decent...It is geared towards someone who has experience....basically I'm saying it is fast passed securement 101. If u have no experience you might get lost. Only require twic. Starting pay depends on how much experience you have.
