I constantly run my trucks from Los Angeles CA to Phoenix AZ and would make a good profit both ways. This morning my broker buddy gave me a call and told me that headquarters gave him orders to keep pay from Phoenix to Los Angeles to under $1.00/mile. I asked why? he said they are trying to manage and control the Phoenix market, rates were getting too high. So now they want to pay 0.90/mile for 350 miles at 45,000lbs it makes no sence. We basically make a $25 profit for a days work, and these large entities for whom we pull loads for (shipper) make good money by putting their products on the shelves. I say stay away from phoenix unless they are willing to pay descent money for pulling 45,000lbs. Without truckers taking their loads to California the Phoenix market will be adversely impacted.

I would consistently get between $1.28 and $1.40 from Pho to LA at 45,000lbs. This guaranteed that I make agt least $150 for the day. Seasonality was not an issue for me given that I would always cover loads for these guys. I also don't buy the excuse that I make my money going to Phoenix because that has also been taking a nose dive. I make more money doing a round trip to Las Vegas which is 200 miles shorter on a round trip basis than going to Phoenix.

Wow.. one man's gold mine I guess.. At those rates the trucks are moving cheaper than if they were leased on at BFI hauling for 95 cents plus surcharge. $25 profit off 90 cents a mile? $100 off $1.28-$1.40 ? Somebody needs to hang it up cause they don't have a clue and wonder why freight is mostly cheap..

It would help a lot if the posters would state what type of freight they are hauling. That might be a good rate for hotshot. :biggrin_25520:

Dry van, no way. Reefer, not just no but he|| no, Flatbed .....

Hmmmm. I guess some run cheaper than other.
