I think the main reason companies want to use their own doctor is because there are doctors out there that are known for approving anyone. When I was first looking at becoming a truck driver that was one company's sales pitch, that they had a doctor that would approve you regardless of your physical condition. Needless to say I stayed far away from them, but had I gotten my medical card through that doctor and switched companies my new company might be getting someone physically unfit to drive. Physicals make me nervous due to my physical size, but I completely understand why each company wants a new physical.

The government website says MS, Parkinson’s and epilepsy are 3 definite disqualifying conditions. It also lists “certain heart conditions”, “certain diabetic conditions” and “certain brain conditions” as potentially disqualifying.

I sincerely doubt BP meds would disqualify, since insulin dependent diabetics are not disqualified from CMV in Canada. Uncontrolled diabetes is, but most type 1 (and 2) diabetics use insulin to control it.

There are some questions on the form regarding psychiatric illnesses, but no mention in the medical guidance about which conditions would be disqualifying.

Also, no mandatory drug testing unless a driver crosses into the USA. Drug screens have been ruled as unconstitutional for almost every job in Canada, as they are invasive and not effective at detecting intoxication but only indiscriminate prior use.
