American English is not the easiest in the world. But I agree, everyone that comes here should speak it, even basic.

Sure it is. For those learning tougher languages it´s a walk in the park.

In my country (Belgium) there are 3 official languages. Flemisch(dutch), French and German. We have to know all 3 of them and additionally you have the choice to learn Spanish or English. I chose English :)

Speaking of highway signs in a foreign language anyone ever see that sign on I-24 eastbound between Monteagle,TN and Chattanooga,TN that says "Chattanooga (cant remember how many)Miles........13 Kilometers" WTF? How many people need to know that they are 13Km from Choo Choo?

This is a silly story, but highlights some of the words used mainly in British English... not to be confused with American English!

Yesterday put in petrol, opened the bonned and checked the oil and then checked the spare tyre in the boot. Seems that my silencer needs to be replaced. I drive a lorry for a living and I get paid every fortnight. On my route I drive through fields of rapeseed.
In the city I stop at a light to wait for a woman pushing a pram down the pavement. Her baby is sucking a dummy and she has just bought nappies at the chemist.
I hope the lift is working when I get back to my flat tonight because I need the loo urgently! I am going to cook mince and chips for dinner, followed by jelly and custard. I will make tomorrow's lunch - peanut butter and jam sandwiches with bangers on the side.
One of my favourite things to do is to dunk biscuits in my coffee in the morning.

I grew up in Miami, FL (really, no ####), and am old enough (59) to remember that Miami used to be a red-neck town. I know that's hard to believe, but it was true. There was a "Dixie Lilly" hominy grits mill in Hialeah. All my teachers in Miami grade school had real Southern accents. The biggest grocery store in Miami back then (Shell's City Supermarket) sponsored a weekly square dance contest that was broadcast live on one of the country music radio stations. Many of our neighbors were true Florida Crackers. As we all know, Miami transitioned from its roots to a predominently Hispanic culture after Castro took Cuba in 1959. I occasionally visit friends down there, and I get a hoot out of the fact that while Spanish speaking is normal in most parts of South Florida - the language spoken is really " Spanglish" - a combination of English and Spanish that will make you laugh out loud when you hear it. As for Wal-Mart and whoever printing their docs in Spanish & English - welcome to the 21st Century! There are a number of states in the USA that will have Hispanic majority within the next twenty years. Then WE become the minority. Sobering thought, huh?

How does someone read signs along the road that can't speak English? That'd be like me driving a 18 wheeler in China ...........come on.
