Really, because the most common posting from people new to the message board is "I just signed a contract with CR England and leave for orientation in a few hours. Are they a good company? The response to every warning to investigate the company before you go is "all trucking companies are alike." It looks more like the people that have haven't taken responsibility for their life blame the industry and the worst trucking companies for hiring them and treating them exactly like we warned they would.

Now that mention CR England I have to concede that you have a point for sure.
There are tiers for sure within the mega companies , I just always assumed that folks went to the bottom tier because they had no choice due to poor work history or criminal records.

Again with the Mega companies, smh. There are thousands of trucking companies. There are thousands of CDL schools, all of which will find students a loan. Half of trucking companies offer Tuition Reimbursement programs to repay CDL school loans. Trucking is NOT for everyone. If it fits you, it's a great rescue job after something went wrong in your life. It was for me.

Newbie: "When I swallow this poison, should I drink tea, soda, or coffee?"
Me: "You don't have to swallow poison."
Newbie: "What kind of fantasy world are you living in?"
Me: "I've worked in the industry a long, long time."
Newbie: "So you're saying when I swallow this poison I should eat something beforehand, got it."
Me: "Or, you could not swallow the poison."
Newbie: "So when I swallow this poison, should I drink tea, soda, or coffee? I'm confused."

Does everyone that avoids McDonalds, Wendy's, Burger King starve to death?
Newbies convince themselves their only option is "free" training from a Mega carrier in-house school.

By all means , get your CDL from a school. Thats what I did and it worked out great.
But , the list of companies that will hire you right out of school is very very short, at least it was when I got my CDL. The list that will reimburse you for school is going to be nearly all megas. Pretty sure of that.

About half of trucking companies that hire newbies offer a Tuition Reimbursement. The list of trucking companies that hire right out of school is thousands more than 5 or 10 years ago. The only reasons to start at a Mega is because you don't want to spend more than 10 seconds searching online or it doesn't matter to you where you work or how you are treated. IMO

Getting that first 3 years accident free while training in your trucking specialty of choice should be your only goal. Dispatch be ######. You can replace your company. You can’t replace your driving history. Which is why we all STRONGLY advise getting an unrestricted CDL and not signing on a contract, and why I personally advise doing hourly or salary pay as a new driver. YRC is a bit of an exception as you get the teamster union and hourly pay to protect your contract.
