My Stepson got Fired from Auto Zone for picking up a lady and her 2 kids. She called the company tell them what a great driver they had. Now this was after he told her to not call. As it would cost him his job. Well she called anyway.
Been driving for 6 years, nothing on his record the whole 6 years with them. Even though it was bad weather. And her and the kids were almost frozen. Still Auto Zone fired him for picking her up. And taking them 3 miles to a safe place.
Picked up a hitchhiker annnd got randomly inspected.

I know a guy that was leased on with a national carrier that lost his contract, told to come in a terminal and surrender his legals and QC because of this very thing. There is ZERO tolerance with most carriers on this issue. I understand the need to be helpful, however don't ever let your carrier know your doing it.

Zero tolerance policies are great...

What a bunch of crap. I just called AutoZone and cancelled our account there. I told them to let their corporate headquarters know why we were dropping them.
I'll shop at NAPA or whatever else is available. AutoZone can struggle along without us. -
Look at this schmuck, , he broke the rules and picked up a hitch hiker.

I hate to be the one to do this but at one time Rayloc (NAPA) had the same policy. In fact a member of the same church I went too drove for them. He told me they fired 2 drivers over several weeks because some store managers ratted them out.

I'm sure most of the big companies have a rule against picking up hitchhikers. We do and it's an insurance company thing.
It's just crappy to fire a guy for that. A warning letter, a little time off, a good butt chewing would all work just as well.
Why lose a good driver over something so trivial?
