I have noticed a lot of people complain about a company for some reason or another saying "Don't work for them!". From what I have seen it is lack of information. I am currently in driving school, while I am here I have been inquiring into every company I can find regardless if I have heard of them before. I ended up with about twenty companies that said they would hire me. I know if I had some time on the road or I was an O/O that number would probably jump to 300 companies.
But from what I have seen if you know what you want you can decide if the company you are looking at offers that. I live in Mississippi and wanted a company that had a terminal close to where I live, had a decent benefits package, decent pay and will keep me rolling. I have narrowed down the companies down to a couple I am seriously looking at. But I think people complain because they get in with a company that does not offer what they are looking for. In all honesty I do not feel bad for people that do not at least write down what is important to them and see who fits. If anyone can refer me a few companies that meet the criteria I mentioned above that would be great.

use the search button, remember no matter what, you have to start somewhere and your first year or two should not be about making money, but getting experience, and doing it safely so you dont screw up your record.

And just because a company says they will offer you this & offer you that, Doesn't mean that they will follow thru

Like your post mentioned, people should know the difference between what they want and what they need. In general a job in trucking is more than a paycheck. Some of the companies offer new equipment, good hometime. Others offer lots of miles or run regional. Finding a good place to be a driver depends on who you qualify to drive for. Some Run all 48 states and others the more congested East Side. At the end of the day it's about keeping your boss off your back by being a dependable driver.

Thats part of the problem with this industry. Everyone seems to think that the smaller companies out there aren't even an option for a new driver so they all funnel into one giant bottom feeder or the other to guarantee an endless supply of new wheel twisters to replace used wheel twisters. I ain't saying small companies are always better or that a big company can't be right for some but there is more out there than the big 5 or 6 1000+ power unit mega-carriers. You got to look for them. You might just end up at a place where you make good money, get home every night or week, everyone knows you and the only place you hear about lease/purchase is on the internet.Bazerk Wizz Bang! Not every driver is a fit for every company. There are those who think they were screwed by Swift, for example, and those who love it there.
Pick a company that best fits your needs, listen to the advice freely given around here, but take it with a grain of salt or two. And remember, some people ain't happy anywhere they go! -
KLLM is a mississippi based company, are they considered a small outfit?

take everything you read with a grain of salt as well
what works for one person, doesnt work for the next guy
you read of people on here with 5 jobs in 3 yrs--now is it the companies or is it the person
my last job i was there 11 years until they closed up--a few other drivers were there longer--but i did see hundreds pass thru the doors who either couldnt cut it or didnt like it for one reason or another
