Same here. There begins to be a profit when fuel starts creeping up near the $3.00 range. Here at the $2.05 to $2.15 range, I simply drive slow to stay in habit, LOL.

Exactly what happened to me earlier this week. Took a 45k load to pa, and came back to the windy with a 42k load @ $1.08. Tank and a half of fuel. Learned that lesson the hard way. I was able to stay in the Midwest after that doing shorter runs. Most loads I picked had disappeared before I could book them but I was able to snag a few. Two of my loads I ran this week had disappeared, then reappeared 15-30 min later. I guess these guys just book loads and figure out if they can run them later, and then call and get them taken off lol.

This week I ran 7.5 days, $4517.19 @ 2935 miles and close estimate of fuel is $1639 without discount. Hauled heavy azzzzzz P&G all week.

I take it you don't see Cali loads due to CARB.

    But let's think.

If they can limit our ability to see Cali loads then we should also know they can limit us to see any other loads they choose.

So not only do we compete against company trucks but also restrictions they could set in our load board without our knowledge.

I'm not saying anything new here just a refresher.

Obviously we don't see dedicated freight either, and many other customers that we deliver inbound too, so they definitely can squeeze us as much as they want, but heck that happens at LS and everywhere else too.

Not Exactly. All Schneider freight is double brokered and they control how much is paid to the IC. It's not totally market driven. If Schneider hits high paying freight, they can absorb much of the profit (as they see fit) in the brokerage division and send the "amount they want" to the trucking division.

With LS, the percentage paid to the truck is directly market driven. Agent negotiates the rate, LS bills the customer and divides the revenue as agreed. Yes, some agents take loads from a load board hence "double broker" but it is not a secret.
If the agent hits a high paying load, all will benefit.

If I was you I would just go ahead an apply for authority. Heck, if you do not use it you only be out about $700. I've lost that at the blackjack tables. Then every time I hauled a good paying load I would write the company name and number down for possible future use. Remember when you start trying to get your own loads you will hear a lot of no's. But you got to keep trying. Heck, if after hearing a lot of no's from girls when I was younger and if I had just gave up I would be a 60 year old virgin. My 4 cents.

Need primary liability ins to get active authority ....

So you'd be out a lot more than $700.
