Not trying to bash you but you keep telling yourself what you want to hear. Comparing a Cat that is set up for heavy haul to a cascadia hauling Dixie cups is not exactly crunching numbers. Just saying

You won't get 9. Sure some days you will just like some days I've gotten 10.5. But only when the stars align. My antique dinosaur gets a solid 7.5 running otr. Oh and 100k miles? Hahahaha. That's funny. If you've read any of my posts you would know that the only way my truck is turning that many miles in a year is if i fell into a gold mine.

Do your calculations on 50k miles and 7.5 vs the real average a new truck is getting. Don't forget to factor in all the extra down time and maintenance costs that new truck has. How much does it cost to replace a dpf filter? I can inframe my dinosaur for under 2500 bucks.

typically anything pre 2010 EPA engine is getting 5-6MPG and most new volvos and freightliners are averaging in the 9mpg

Ya no kidding. My mechanical cat running reefer to the northwest and back always gave me 6.5 average for the trip.

You are smoking crack. A pre egr series 60 can easily get 7.5 average. Heck running light I'm over 9mpg down here in the flat country. 5 mpg with legal weights hasn't been a standard since the 400 big cam days. That was what? 1985?

On high miles it can be argued a new truck will pay for itself in fuel savings. But for those of us that don't run 10 hours a day 330 days a year, not a chance.

While every operation is different, i have yet to see a high mileage operation result in high net. Might want to ponder that a bit before you start planning your business on 100k miles a year.

    100k miles @ 6mpg is 18.2k gallons @ $2.50/gal is $45.5K/12mos is about 3787 a month.
100k miles @ 9mpg is 11.1k gallons @ $2.50/gal is 27.7K/12mos is about 2314 a month. Thats 1400. every month. And with a new truck you do have to figure in that unless you buy a lemon you will have less down time and repairs... thats just about a truck payment...

And yes the brand new 2017/18 trucks are getting that MPG in automatics... Hate automatics... but for fuel savings... giddy up.
