Like spyder just said, first year you pay for all the states. After that you can pick certain states. We have a choice here between all 48 or the eastern 37.

I believe all 48 are on your registration for ever no matter what states you ask for or pick.....,,,,
-
You don't have to pay for the states you don't want. Our 37 state tag is cheaper than our 48 state tag.

What mercer charges us had no bearing on what another guy will pay the irp. Remember ifta charges, ny hu tax, kyu tax, nm ton mile tax, oregon ton mile tax, and instate authority permits are included in the number we pay mercer.
As of Jan of this year you can no longer choose what states are on your cab card when registering a vehicle. You get all of them and pay a prorated amount for each state based on an estimated mileage. Each state had a different registration fee, but you don't pay the full amount. Say Florida is 1000 bucks, but only 10 percent of your miles are in Florida, that's 100 bucks. Add them all up for each state you run and there is your irp charge. Aftet the first year you will pay according to the miles you ran the previous year.RStewart Thanks this. -
Ok. Thanks. I stand corrected. I haven't bought my own plate in 20 years. Back then you estimated your miles the first year & then paid based on your actual miles then. But you could pick & choose what states you wanted to run in.

Its the same today with the exception of every state will be on your cab card.RStewart Thanks this.

Run under his authority. Pick your own loads get paid 90% well maybe he hasn't decided if it's 88 89 or 90. You provide everything except the authority. All he is doing is providing DOT numbers and taking 10%.TennMan Thanks this. -
