Today I mark the 2 year mark with SFI and my Freightliner. 250k on the clock. Been a great truck never missed a day of work. Yes it had a bad "Rail" from the factory and took 17 days to fix by Detroit themselves but it was bad from the factory so I don't hold that against the truck. It happened in the first few months.
I enjoyed the IC program and think it's a great starting point. As always I thank @TennMan and @freightwipper for all there help and advice. I quickly found the IC program not to challenge me. I left for a speciality reefer company. Learned a ton. But I didn't like being dispatched I made double the money. But that MC I had parked was calling me so 3 months ago I did my own thing it's been great.
SFI I have had 3 reps. No issues with any of them. Yes I run there truck under my own authority many many said it could not be done. Really it's about communication and I am pretty good at that. I have over paid my payments by 350.00 per week for almost 18 months I have a pile in reserves. In I still get Schneiders discounts since I'm in the SFI family.
Where's the end game for this ole Captain. I don't know. But today as I took back roads and just reflected I know I am happier than ever and look forward to doing my own thing. Specialized / Fragile Reefer hauls.
Thanks to all of you

Capt'n Dave, you're a good guy and you deserve the best.
I'm back to, "Schneider is what works for me......", but it does. It's kinda like being married to a fat ugly chick. "Yeah, she's fat and ugly and you can't believe a word that comes out of her mouth, but, I'm cool with it."
Rock on, brotherSingingWolf, whoopNride, sealevel and 4 others Thank this. -

He replied something along the line of, "yeah, well, not exactly. Another dude took that spot so it's a Dothan turn with dock work in Dothan." So I told him that I wouldn't be available......
See, what really, really pissed me off and ultimately killed the deal was that he knew at least a month before that someone else had taken the run but didn't have the balls to tell me. The reason I know this is when I went on my check ride (4 weeks ago), the guy told me I'd probably be running Dothan........"nah", I said, "David said it was work the outbound dock in Albany and turn Atlanta."
Then, the day I turned in all my paperwork, (physical, hazmat endorsement, and agility test), I had a chance to talk to his supervisor for a few minutes. He told me that he had been training a guy for the outbound dock / Atlanta turn for 4 weeks......he said I'd likely be running Dothan........which is why I asked the manager the question.
So, I figured that if the dude is going to lie to me now, he'll probably be doing a whole lot more of it later.
The time it took to get all processed and whatnot gave me time to reflect on what I have right now and what I'd be doing if I quit. I guess there's just some folks like me that have to be on the road. I couldn't stand the idea of someone telling me when to go to work and what to do once I got there. I'm getting old and cranky and anything more than 'pick up trailer XXXX at XXX and deliver it to XXXX by XXXX' is just TMI.
When I was a manager at FedEx Freight I used to tell people that there's a difference between linehaul drivers and city drivers and that they're not interchangeable. I guess the same goes for local guys and OTR guys....I honestly don't envy them a bit, and I'm sure they don't envy me.
So, I guess I'll be running Big Red till the wheels fall off or until Schneider makes me buy a newer one with 'crash avoidance' or whatever the hell they call it......but it's all good. I left out Monday morning at 0800 and was back home at 1400 Friday and I'll net around $2500.
It's a good life and I'm very happy. So, yeah, I'm back with Schneider.scythe08, TennMan, rickybobby and 1 other person Thank this. -
