I do. This industry is full of people who are near or beyond retirement age. They still have bills faxed or mail them to the brokers. They have been running a truck longer than much of the industry has been alive. Technology is not part of their generation. They have been getting along just fine, earning a living, and will soon be depending on a pathetic social security check (not because they wanted to retire, but because they can't figure out the unneeded technology that is being forced on them)

Back when i was a company driver (pulling tankers), we had a 70 year old man that worked with us. He could handle any run we did. He could unload any product, walk the tops of the tanks without an issue. We converted to Elogs, and trying to run a log book on a blackberry ended his career. I tried to help him, he simply didn't get it. Outside of the electronic log, though, he could work circles around just about any 40 year old man.

Remember. 90% of this industry doesn't work for a mega carrier, or lease to a mega carrier. They are the extreme majority of this industry. Average age of a truck driver is 55. Factor in the mega companies that have their trucks full of guys and gals in their 20's, 30's, and 40's, just imagine how much of this industry is what we consider "senior citizens". Lots of these folks never even seen high school, but they can do this job as well or better than many of us.

LOL. Then 50 tow trucks will be there to tow all 50 of you away, and 50 police officers will be there to arrest anyone who tries to stop the tow truck driver.

I get what you are saying but in order to remain viable one must evolve....just like the dinosaurs, some will fail.

I've been in trucking since 1995. The one thing that doesnt change, is there is always changes. You must be able to adapt or you won't last in this industry.
