The truth is paper logs are cheap freight. The shippers throw a premium at a solo paper cheater, but it's less than they pay for a team. And team rates are suppressed because the demand is covered by the cheaters.

 

I think it will boom short term say 12 to 18 months but the industry will adapt and it will go back to like it was 10 to 20 years ago. Gone will be the just in time freight and we will see an uptick in warehousing. Freight will become more steady year round because companies will go back to keeping stock on hand and the boom times of year will be spread out through the year.

I doubt it will ever be acknowledged. LOL

But I do believe it to be the direction of the industry, there's no other feasible solution.

 

You know that JIT has been around for over 30 years. And in 8 years I've only hauled one true JIT load ... if it's drop and hook it's not JIT.

 

I used to do a lot of JIT freight. It didn't pay any better than anything else, and the appointment s were very tight. A 15 minute window either way was all you had.

But, as soon as the trailer touched the dock, light turns red for 15 minutes then get the heck out cause the next truck is due in 15 minutes, and is probably at the gate or staring you down.

Get these shippers and consignees to realize that nobody is going to wait around for them anymore unless they pay up, and they will figure out how to get things done.

But more than likely I think there will be a big increase in teams, and then rates will drop back to normal. The biggest difference will be less available freight for solo drivers, even short haul.

 

Exactly how Lofgren and his buddies at the ATA had it figured......now, we'll get everyone strapped to a CPAP, and we'll be set.
Look, stuff like this doesn't happen by accident. The Lobbyists write the rules, the companies pay the freight, and congress passes the bills.

 

That's why I'm in a good position since my wife is getting her license back. We're not going to run team full time but even running solo loads it will help out with having her hours also. I see my truck being quite a bit more productive.

 

He was right about the choice program so I'll take his word on this also.

 

This will be surprising, because the like of WalMart are going 100% in the opposite direction, and that was a very recent decision. The stuff that comes in, even on drop trailers, as they try to perfect their plan, is almost immediately going onto trailers to ship out to stores.

In my last days at Schneider, I witnessed 2-3 times taking a trailer into Bentonville, and the yard dog hooked to it putting it into a door by the time I got hooked to an empty.
