    Think of capacity in terms of available hours per truck, instead of just numbers of truck.

    Just reducing the skimming that naturally occurs on paper will reduce capacity by that amount, with no reduction in the number of trucks.

    The Megas don’t pull cheap freight. They just offer cheap to theire lease ops and keep the remainder.

    Why in the world would they put the good paying spot freight on outside carriers and make less money by putting the cheaper contact freight on their own trucks? That makes zero sense.

    It's not their spot freight ... It's freight they're contracturally obligated to carry. No trucks to carry it, so it gets put on the spot market and they eat it.

    It's cheaper than losing the contract and or paying failure to perform penalties.

    It one of the reasons spot freight is so hot. All the large carriers are spilling frieght on the spot market to keep thier contract customers happy.

    Couple that with a some of the large carriers aren't running spot freight at all. Swift completely shut down their broker facing customer department.

    Did a search earlier today

    Picking up 12/26, past 5 hour postings on DAT for Reefer

    200 mile radius around Elhart, Indiana.

    1326 loads posted
    43 trucks posted

    let that sink in

    No it's not just the holidays.
    Brokers are telling me it's crazy times thanks to ELD and this is not normal.

    Maybe that's why they picked right before the holidays to start this mandate to blame loads not being moved and high rates on the holidays to try to calm what could be some backlash. They picked right before the holidays for reason crazy reason.. I think that's why.
